Miami-Dade Breaks Ground On Dadeland South Intermodal Station

Miami-Dade County held a groundbreaking ceremony yesterday for the Dadeland South Intermodal Station.

The Station is the southernmost end of the existing Metrorail system and is the northern terminal station of the South Dade TransitWay.

The $66m project includes enhancements at the 40-year-old Dadeland South Metrorail station, as well as new connectivity to the upcoming Bus Rapid Transit system.

Completion of the Dadeland South Intermodal Station is planned in fall 2025, while the BRT system is expected to reach completion in the fall of 2024.

Downgraded from rail – to light rail – then to BRT – and then to just a typical bus. Lol this city is unbelievable

Was neither. It was the county and your beloved Cava and Higgins who have no idea what they’re talking about.

You’re right. Going to be more stoic, and stop letting the cynics influence me. I’m very impressed with the leadership here and have faith in them and our amazingly talented community.

Brickell Station needs remodeling like this asap!

It needs something better akin to the Oculus at the WTC, but any long overdo improvement is welcomed here!

Careful now… leave it to Arquitectonica or Zyscovich to make it look worse.

That’s a 4 billion dollar transit hub…

Come back to earth.

Anonymous

True, that example might be a bit out there at the moment, but I was thinking it could be a special transit hub. On the plus side, it’s great the escalators are working again.

It’s different from Oculus in size and design, but like Oculus, it’s getting more shops, restaurants, comfortable and modern areas for train passengers, and nice landscaping and iconic art. This is happening with big upgrades to the Underline and new landmark high-quality development in the area.

What's wrong with Brickell?

New Underline chickens running around, dust heat as Miami as it gets!

Anonymous

This is so cool! Look how far the Underline extends. The more I learn, the more our City and County amazes me with their incredible work 🤩 they are literally paving the way for new and improved transit every day.

complete waste of money when they should at least be extending the metrorail down to Southland mall. Once again Miami-dade politicians wasting tax payers dollars

And Miami Beach and Wynwood!

anonymous

to wynwood is actually in the works with northeast corridot and i think they got funding for that too

Anonymous

As long as it’s a unified metro system with metro rail.

Anonymous

South Beach and Wynwood, as well as other walkable areas like Riverside/Little Havana and Coral Way over suburban by design places like Cutler Ridge and Miami Gardens.

If they wanted rail, the old FEC line wouldn’t have been dug up.

Wasting money is right!!! This current politicians don’t know any better in how to waste tax payers money. Idea for our current Mayor: Extend Metro all the way to Southland Mall. Make the mall a HUB for transit going to the south, with Buses, Uber driver stations etc. (at the same time you give needed live to that mall) . Give that line to the private sector: Example: Brightline. Let them run the line. I bet that instead of taking 20yrs plus to finish, they will be done in less than 4. Same goes with the metro lines going to Miami Beach and the former Marling stadium. Why 60 millions $ for a revamp project..? We need new leadership in Miami Dade.

It’s not BRT

The State isn’t allowing buses to use priority signaling.

Anon

Every press announcement has positioned it as BRT. How surprised people will be when they go to take it on Saturday and it’s just a bus.

Anonymous

They already have railroad like crossing signs up.

anon

That doesnt make it BRT. The busses won’t have priority.

Herp derp, Brightline is not HSR because D**k Scott canceled the true HSR proposal to nowhere and only served airports.

Intermodal in a bad way

It’s only intermodal because it’s a crappy downgrade not a rail extension.

Only in Miami do they open “intermodal stations” with such pomp and circumstance when it’s really just a bus stop. How have the people here put up with this decade after decade after decade?

Next to Miami Gardens, that would be the last place. East-west Miami Beach and Riverside connection first, and Douglas Road extension from the airport after.

The state leaders downgraded it, not the county.

Go move to Commiefornia if you want that government on all levels. Tell me how their HSR is working out.

Anonymous

Good if it was true, because we need rail expansion elsewhere and closer to the core, and more infill TOD than further sprawl.

The priority bus lane they have in St Pete works great and is super frequent. If this is anything like that then I’ll take it.

The bus-way has always been awesome on an ebike or motorcycle. I hope they build housing where the Aldis and Publix and old Toys R Us and WalMart are located. There are some sketchy bus stops near Perrine, so throwing up some new apartments there would be a good way to populate the street a bit better so people getting off the bus aren’t exposed and isolated

Why 63 million????!!!! And now our mayor wants a 2.1 billion dollar bond!

Anonymous

Dadeland South is probably the station that needs the less attention. It was actually designed as TOD, with Downtown Dadeland, and other development following suit.
