Partial Demolition At Former Omni Mall Approved

A permit for partial demolition at the former Omni Mall has been approved.

The demolition permit was applied for in November 2022, and approved last week. Most of the wait time was for the applicant to make corrections to plans, a permit tracker shows.

According to notes attached to the permit, partial demolition is planned at the former JCPenney space, along with work on some of the parking area. “Because it is attached to the parking, remodeling is required for safety from the parking garage,” a note says.

The estimated cost of the project is listed at $1,147,785.

A new development anchored by a mega-Hilton and convention center, like the Knight Center and Hyatt Regency redevelopment, would be wonderful.

When it opened, that JC Penney was the most luxurious JC Penney in the country. The first floor entrance had a beautiful display of Madame Alexander dolls leading into the toy department.

Hope they knock down the northern section of OMNI which has an indented space in the wall where homeless hang out .
They leave behind suffocatingly strong odors of unwashed body and worse which makes walking to pubelicks not a pleasure..

The only JCP I gave a darn about because the toy section on the first floor was LOADED with Star Wars action figures in the early 80s. Great memories. Used to walk by there to remember. You can’t go home again.
